WHAT IS SUNDAY PARKWAYS?
On June 22, 2008 from 8am to 2pm, the City of Portland is hosting a 6 mile traffic-free community event in North Portland. SUNDAY PARKWAYS ( www.gettingaroundPortland.org ) is patterned after Ciclovias (a Spanish term meaning "bike path") in Bogota and Guadalajara's Via RecreActiva, where every Sunday streets are closed to cars so that people can bike, roller blade, run, and stroll without traffic. There will ba all types of fun, creative activities along the route and at Kaiser Town Hall, and Arbor Lodge, Peninsula and Untank Parks. It is a wonderful chance for families to get out, meet new people, and try new things. Parents and children can walk, bike, and spend time together exploring their neighborhood. The route is a two-way directional flow with no start or finish. Families will not need to drive to the event - just walk, bike, skateboard, or hop a bus!
